Kathy - The Heart of Kathys Drapes by Design
Kathy has been helping customers bring their decorating visions to life since the mid-1980s, making her a true expert in the world of window treatments. With decades of experience in measuring and quoting for drapes and blinds, she has an incredible eye for detail and a deep understanding of how fabrics, textures, and colors work together to create the perfect look for any space.
Her passion for fabrics and textures is at the core of everything she does. She loves working closely with customers, guiding them through the selection process, and ensuring they feel confident in their choices. Whether you need help choosing between soft sheers, luxurious velvets, or classic linens, Kathy’s expertise ensures that every recommendation is tailored to your style, needs, and budget.

Meet Kate – Our Expert Production and Retail Manager.
Kate has been immersed in the interior design industry for 20 years, building extensive expertise in color, paint, and wallpaper. In 2012, she transitioned into the curtain-making side of the business, where she quickly became a skilled curtain and Roman blind maker. Her craftsmanship and attention to detail led her to the role of workroom manager, overseeing the production of high-quality, custom-made window treatments.
As the business grew, Kate’s role evolved. In June 2018, she stepped away from making to take on a broader leadership role. Now, she manages the workroom operations, ensuring efficiency, quality control, and smooth workflow for the team. She works closely with our talented makers, providing guidance and maintaining our high standards for craftsmanship.
In addition to managing the workroom, Kate is also back on the shop floor, assisting customers with fabric selections, offering expert advice on colors and textures, and ensuring they receive the best possible service. She also coordinates all installation bookings, working closely with our installer Matt to ensure seamless scheduling and a hassle-free experience for customers.
Kate’s versatility, knowledge, and dedication make her an integral part of Kathy’s Drapes by Design, and we’re incredibly lucky to have her leading the team!
Ange - Your In Home Consulting Specialist
Ange joined Kathy’s Drapes by Design in 2014 to assist with measuring and quoting, bringing with her years of experience and a keen eye for design. Having been originally trained by Kathy early in her career, Ange developed a strong foundation in window treatments and interior styling. She has remained in the industry ever since, refining her skills and deepening her expertise.
Her true passion lies in in-home consulting, where she works closely with customers to understand their unique style, needs, and space requirements. Ange takes the time to listen, offering tailored recommendations that enhance both the functionality and beauty of a home. Whether it’s selecting the perfect fabric, advising on light control, or ensuring a flawless fit, she is dedicated to helping customers achieve their ideal look.
Ange’s warm and approachable nature, combined with her extensive industry knowledge, makes her an invaluable part of our team. She loves bringing creative visions to life and ensuring every customer walks away feeling confident and excited about their choices.

Vinny has been an essential part of Kathy’s Drapes by Design since the very beginning—not only as our curtain and blind installer but also as Kathy’s husband and biggest supporter. When the shop first opened, he stepped in to handle all installations, ensuring that every drape and blind was fitted with precision and care.
In early 2021, after years of dedicated work, Vinny decided to return to his true passion—artwork. While we were sad to see him step away from installations, we were thrilled to support him in following his creative journey.
To continue his legacy, we welcomed Kate’s husband, Matt, into the team as our new installer. Matt has done a fantastic job stepping into the role, and if you’ve spotted the Kathy’s Drapes van around town, you know he’s been busy!

Our Talented Workroom Team
Behind every beautifully crafted curtain and blind at Kathy’s Drapes by Design is our dedicated workroom team—a group of skilled professionals who bring each custom piece to life with precision and care.
Our talented makers, Chelsea, Jen, Jo, Tash, Teressa, and Marie-Lou, are experts in textile craftsmanship, with years of experience working with fabrics, patterns, and intricate sewing techniques. Their keen attention to detail ensures that every drape and blind is made to the highest standard, whether it’s a soft flowing sheer, a structured Roman blind, or an opulent set of full-length curtains.
In 2018, when we expanded our workroom to 55 Austin Street, we welcomed Jo and Tash to the team. This move allowed us to increase production capacity while maintaining our commitment to locally made, high-quality products. Having an in-house workroom means that every curtain and blind is carefully crafted under our own roof, ensuring exceptional quality control and a truly bespoke service for our customers.
Our workroom staff are the heart of our production process, combining skill, creativity, and passion to deliver stunning window treatments that transform homes. We’re incredibly proud of the work they do and grateful for the craftsmanship they bring to every project!
Our Growth & Expansion
At Kathy’s Drapes by Design, we’ve always been committed to delivering the highest quality, locally made window treatments. As our business continued to grow, so did our need for more space. In June 2018, we made an exciting move to 55 Austin Street, expanding our workroom to keep up with increasing demand.
This move allowed us to ensure that every curtain and Roman blind is made right here, in-house, maintaining our exceptional standards of craftsmanship. With a larger workroom, our talented makers have the space and resources to produce custom-made drapes and blinds efficiently, while still paying close attention to every detail.
But that wasn’t the only upgrade—our showroom also expanded by an additional 20 sqm, giving our customers a more comfortable and inspiring space to explore our extensive range of fabrics, textures, and window treatment options. This larger showroom allows us to showcase even more stunning designs, helping customers envision the perfect look for their homes.
We are incredibly proud of how far we’ve come, and none of this would be possible without our dedicated team and loyal customers. We are a friendly, enthusiastic, and knowledgeable team, passionate about providing top-quality service.
